Coyotes Select Seven Players on Day Two of 2012 NHL Entry Draft

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- The Phoenix Coyotes selected seven players on day two of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft at the CONSOL Energy Center from Pittsburgh, PA.

The Coyotes drafted center Jordan Martinook, Vancouver (WHL) with the 58th selection in the second round. The 6-foot, 202 pound native of Leduc, Alberta recorded a break-out season with the Giants in 2011-12, registering 40-24-64. In two seasons with Vancouver, Martinook has produced 51-41-92 in 144 regular season games.

In the third round, the Coyotes selected defenseman James Melindy, Moncton (QMJHL). The 6-foot-2, 190 pound native of St. John’s, Newfoundland registered 9-18-27 and collected 74 penalty minutes (PIM) in 61 games with the Wildcats in 2011-12. He also recorded 2-1-3 and 12 PIM in four postseason games.

With the 102nd overall pick (fourth round), Phoenix selected defenseman Rhett Holland, Okotoks (AJHL). The 6-foot-2, 220 pound native of Calgary, Alberta recorded 3-7-10 and 223 PIM in 47 games with the Oilers.

In the fifth round, the Coyotes selected defenseman Niklas Tikkinen, Espoo (FIN Jr.). The 5-foot-11, 172 pound native of Espoo, Finland registered 8-15-22 in 39 games with Espoo’s U20 team. He also skated in seven games with Espoo’s U18 club, recording 3-9-12. Tikkinen represented Finland at the 2012 U 18 World Junior Championship, where he collected two assists. He was ranked 17th amongst European skaters in Central Scouting's final rankings.

With the 178th overall pick (sixth round), the Coyotes took left wing Samuel Fejes, Shattuck St. Mary’s (MN-HS). The 6-foot-1, 190 pound native of Oakdale, MN recorded 14-14-28 in 49 games with Sabres.

The Coyotes had two seventh round selections. With the 184th pick, the Coyotes selected goaltender Marek Langhamer, Pardubice (CZE Jr.). The 6-foot-1, 181 pound native of Pisek, Czech Republic posted a 3.29 goals-against average (GAA) and a .909 save percentage (SV%) in 33 games with Pardubice this season.

The Coyotes’ final selection in the 2012 Entry Draft was defenseman Justin Hache, Shawinigan (QMJHL) with the 208th pick. The 6-foot-2, 195 pound native of Petit-Rocher, New Brunswick recorded 2-16-18 and 47 PIM in 60 games with the Cataractes this season. He scored one goal in 11 postseason games.

Beginning on Tuesday (June 26), the Coyotes will hold their prospect development camp at the Ice Den (9375 East Bell Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85260). All on-ice sessions will be free and open to the public. The full roster for the camp will be released on Monday.
