2012-13 Coyotes Prospects Report: 10/08/2012

AHL

The Portland Pirates, the Coyotes’ affiliate in the American Hockey League, posted a 1-1-1 record in its three preseason games.

Szwarz

• Forward Jordan Szwarz scored a goal in regulation and a shootout goal on Oct. 4 to lead Portland to a 2-1 win over the University of New Brunswick at the Portland (Maine) Ice Arena.

Forward Jordan Martinook also scored a shootout goal for Portland.

Szwarz scored his regulation goal at 15:46 of the second period. University of New Brunswick’s Cam Braes tied the score at 8:01 of the third period.

During the shootout, Portland goalie Mike Lee stopped four of five shots. In addition to playing the shootout, Lee played the second half of the game, plus the overtime, and faced 12 shots.

Portland goalie Mark Visentin started the game and played the first 32 minutes. He stopped all nine shots he faced.

• Forward Brian O’Neill scored a goal at 3:59 of overtime on Oct. 7 to lead the Manchester Monarchs to a 4-3 win over Portland at the Portland (Maine) Ice Arena.

Brown

Defenseman Mark Louis, and forwards Alexandre Bolduc and Chris Brown each scored a goal for Portland. Trailing 3-2, Brown scored his goal with just 23.9 seconds left to help force overtime.

“The guys worked hard, for the most part,” said Coyotes Assistant General Manager Brad Treliving, who also serves as G.M. of the Pirates. “We played well for the first two periods, but I thought we sat back too much and gave up too many chances against in the third period.”

Goalie Chad Johnson played the entire game for Portland and stopped 30 of 34 shots.

• The Manchester Monarchs scored five power-play goals on Oct. 8 en route to a 7-1 win over Portland at Salem, N.H.

Forward Darian Dziurzynski scored a goal at 14:01 of the third period for Portland.

Manchester was 5 for 11 on the power play, while Portland was 0 for 5. The Monarchs outshot the Pirates 40-18.

Mark Visentin played goal for Portland, which dropped to 1-1-1 after three preseason games.

The Pirates will next take the ice on Oct. 13 when they play at the Adirondack Phantoms in their regular-season opener.



ECHL

Domingue

Goalies Mike Lee and Louis Domingue have each played one exhibition game for the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Domingue is 1-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .966 save percentage. Lee is 0-1-o with a 4.00 goals-against average and a .826 save percentage.

Defenseman Justin Weller has played two exhibition games and is plus-1. Forward Maxime Villemaire has played one exhibition game and is minus-2.




CHL

Defenseman David Schlemko has decided to play for the Arizona Sundogs during the NHL lockout. The Sundogs begin their season on Oct. 20 at the Allen Americans.




Canadian Hockey League

Eight prospects are playing junior hockey for Canadian Hockey League teams:

• Forward Andrew Fritsch has two goals and four assists in seven games for Sault Ste. Marie (OHL)

• Defenseman Justin Hache has four assists in nine games for Cape Breton (QMJHL)

• Forward Kale Kessy has two goals in two games for Medicine Hat (WHL)

Lessio

• Forward Lucas Lessio has five goals and four assists in six games for Oshawa (OHL)

• Defenseman James Melindy has one assist in seven games for Moncton (QMJHL)

• Defenseman Connor Murphy has one goal and one assist in five games for Sarnia (OHL)

• Forward Henrik Samuelsson has two goals and five assists in seven games for Edmonton (WHL)

• Goalie Marek Langhamer is 2-2-1 with a 2.98 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage for Medicine Hat (WHL)




NCAA

Three prospects will play college hockey later this season. They are forward Samuel Fejes (Colorado College), defenseman Rhett Holland (Michigan State), and forward Zac Larraza (University of Denver).




KHL

• Forward Viktor Tikhonov has three goals and one assist in six games for St. Petersburg.




European Elite Leagues

• Defenseman Jonas Ahnelov is minus-2 in 10 games for Modo (SWE)

• Forward Vladimir Ruzicka has one goal and five assists in 10 games for Slavia Praha (CZECH)




European Junior Leagues

• Forward Alexander Ruuttu has one goal in four games for Jokerit (FIN)

• Defenseman Niklas Tikkinen has three assists in five games for Espoo (FIN)
