After the game, the Coyotes staged a shootout, which was highlighted by a nifty glove save by Smith on a shot by Keith Yandle.
More than 3,700 fans attended the free event and the Coyotes thanked them by skating around the ice and waving their sticks before heading to the dressing rooms.
"It was amazing," defenseman Keith Yandle said of the turnout. "I went out before the game and saw how many people were out there and came in and told everyone... It was just a reminder that everyone is backing us again this year, and hopefully it's a good sign for more to come."
Coyotes captain Shane Doan did not play in the scrimmage because of a minor injury and is considered day-to-day. Center Boyd Gordon (upper-body injury) also did not play in the scrimmage, but he is expected to skate with teammates on Thursday.
