Ekman-Larsson Arrives at Training Camp
GLENDALE – Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who missed the first three days of training camp because of immigration issues, skated with teammates for the first time on Saturday.
“I feel really, really bad for my teammates,” Ekman-Larsson, who is a native of Sweden, said after his first training camp workout. “I let them down. I don’t want to talk about it anymore. I’m here now and excited for a good season.”
Ekman-Larsson, who was voted the Team’s MVP last season, called captain Shane Doan on the day camp opened to apologize.
“He’s just such a good kid,” Doan said. “Everyone likes him so much.”
Ekman-Larsson did some extra skating on Saturday.
“He’ll get (another) good workout Monday, and then everybody gets a day off Tuesday except Oliver,” Head Coach Dave Tippett said. “He’ll find a way to catch up on the workload.”
Ekman-Larsson said he’s fine with that.
“It’s fun to be back,” Ekman-Larsson said. “I had no legs (on Saturday), but it’s coming and it was just fun to be on the ice again.”
