Coyotes Assign Summers to AHL

GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have assigned defenseman Chris Summers to the Portland Pirates (AHL) and recalled forward Brandon Yip.

The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Summers has appeared in 29 career games with the Coyotes, totaling 0-3-3 and 24 penalty minutes (PIM). He played in six games with Phoenix in 2012-13, recording nine PIM. The 25-year-old native of Ann Arbor, Michigan was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the first round (29th overall) in the 2006 Entry Draft.

The 6-foot-1, 198-pound Yip recorded 3-5-8 in 34 games with the Nashville Predators last season. The 28-year-old native of Vancouver, B.C. has totaled 29-27-56 with 130 PIM in 172 career NHL games. Yip was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the eighth round (239th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
