Arizona Coyotes

EDITOR’S NOTE: Coyotes Co-Owner, President and CEO Anthony LeBlanc answered questions from reporters on Monday morning regarding the team’s first season under its new ownership. What follows are some highlights from the press conference, which can be viewed in its entirety above:

LeBlanc announced that the team would officially change its name to Arizona Coyotes during The NHL Draft Weekend (June 27–28).

LeBlanc on team logo/uniforms:
“We’ve all been pretty adamant that we’re big fans of the current logo, although the current third jersey is going to be kind of moving away. We’ve already announced that we will be doing a Retro Night and going back to the original Coyotes logo for at least one game next year.”

LeBlanc on General Manager Don Maloney and Head Coach Dave Tippett:
“We’re thrilled that they’re both long-term members of this organization.”

LeBlanc on not making the Stanley Cup Playoffs:
“We came back (from three-game road trip that ended on March 27) thinking playoffs was fait accompli and then we didn’t win again until last night. So we certainly understand and share the frustration that the fans have because we’re all very frustrated right now. We don’t understand why things went the way that they did.”

LeBlanc on possible youth movement next season:
“Do I think that we have some good prospects in the system? I do and I’m thrilled about that. Are they ready to come up? I need to rely on (Maloney and Tippett) to tell us if that’s the case.”

LeBlanc on season tickets:
“So far this year we’re having a record year in regards to new season tickets being sold at this time of the season. That’s very encouraging.”

LeBlanc on ticket sales:
“At the end of the year we’ve actually come in right in line with what we had budgeted and expected. We said at the beginning of this year we wanted to get to a point where we were averaging 14,000 paid (per game). And within literally single digits, we hit that number. So that’s very encouraging. Next year, we want to go to the next step. Our original plan said we want to get to 15,000 as an average for ticket sales for next year and I feel very confident we’ll get there.”
