GLENDALE – Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney on Tuesday said approximately two dozen people already have expressed interest in the team’s vacant Assistant General Manager position, but he added he’s not in any rush to fill the job.

Maloney is looking to replace former Assistant G.M. Brad Treliving, who left the team on Monday to become the General Manager of the Calgary Flames.

"I don't feel any urgency to fill the position immediately," Maloney said. "We have some very good people internally whose roles will be expanded... In the meantime, I'm mulling over what we really need for that position to move forward."

Maloney is considering restructuring the job description for the position, which Treliving had held since 2007.

"I'd like to find someone who fits for us," Maloney said, "and it might not be somebody who sits in the office next to mine, it might be someone who is out in the field more than he's in the office here... I've lost a confidant, and now I'm looking for somebody to fill that role. And it may be more than one person. It may be a couple of people beefing up our hockey IQ out in the field."

Maloney is not surprised so many people reached out to him about the job within the first 24 hours after it was officially vacated.

"It will take time to sort out all of the interested parties," he said.

The 2014 NHL Entry Draft is set for June 27-28 in Philadelphia. Maloney said he does not feel pressure to hire Treliving's replacement(s) before that key event.

"I'm not uncomfortable, whatsoever, with any area of our organization right now with regards to the draft," Maloney said.

Sean Burke, the team’s Assistant to the General Manager/Goaltenders Coach, has expressed interest in expanding his role.

"His role with us will have to be discussed in the weeks ahead," Maloney said. "Sean is a very important part of this organization and he does a good job in his role. How we expand it and where it goes, the weeks and months ahead will determine it."

Maloney also said the role of Chris O'Hearn, the team’s Senior Director of Hockey Operations, would expand.

Regarding Treliving, Maloney said he wishes him well.

"Brad has worked hard for this opportunity to be a general manager in the National Hockey League and I am very proud of him. We wish him the best of luck."

He added, "“It’s good for the Flames, good for Brad and it creates new possibilities for us.”
