President, Chief Operating Officer and Alternate Governor
Mike Nealy enters his seventh season with the Coyotes and Jobing.com Arena. Nealy has served as the Coyotes President & Chief Operating Officer since June 30, 2010. Nealy also serves as the President of Coyotes Charities. Prior to that, he served four years as the team’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Nealy, who originally joined the organization from the Minnesota Wild organization on January 30, 2006, is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day business operations for the Coyotes and Jobing.com Arena. As Alternate Governor, he represents the organization at NHL Board of Governors meetings.
Over the past two seasons, the 47-year-old Nealy has helped stabilize the franchise and improved the franchise’s financial position. With a disciplined and focused business approach, Nealy spearheaded season ticket renewal campaigns that resulted in the highest renewal rates in franchise history each of the past two years and the team’s largest season ticket holder base since 1999. Under Nealy’s guidance, the Coyotes have generated the largest increase in the NHL in gate receipts and were ranked in the top five in the league in paid ticket increase, average ticket price increase and complimentary ticket decrease. Through Nealy’s relationship building and sales acumen, corporate support and sponsorship investment has increased substantially.
Under Nealy’s leadership, ESPN The Magazine selected the Coyotes as the sixth best franchise among all professional sports teams in North America in the magazine’s 10th annual 2012 Ultimate Standings which measures how much NHL, NBA, NFL and MLB franchises give back to their fans in exchange for all the time, money and emotion that fans invest in their teams. The Coyotes also ranked first among all NHL teams and first among all professional sports franchises in Arizona. Last season, the Coyotes ranked 28th overall and 10th among all NHL teams.
During his tenure as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Nealy oversaw treasury, finance and accounting, legal, information technology, human resources and the box office operations for the Coyotes and Jobing.com Arena. He also served as Treasurer on the board for Coyotes Charities.
Prior to his move to Phoenix, Nealy spent four years with the Wild and Minnesota Sports & Entertainment where he served as Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller. Before working in the sports industry, he spent 13 years with the Deluxe Corporation/eFunds where he held a variety of management and financial leadership positions both at the Minnesota headquarters and at wholly-owned subsidiaries in Ohio and Wisconsin. Nealy was selected as the recipient of the 2012 Sports Business Leader of the Year Award by Minnesota State University for “demonstrating outstanding business, academic, and visionary leadership through effective management of his organization”.
Nealy is a member of the Greater Phoenix Leadership (an extensive collaboration among business and community leaders and one of Arizona’s strongest advocates for quality education); is an Honorary Commander alumni at Luke Air Force Base; serves on the Board for the Fighter Country Partnership and also serves on the Board of Directors in the Arizona chapter of The Partnership for a Drug Free America; serves on the Board of the Positive Coaching Alliance (Phoenix).
A Minnesota native, Nealy earned Bachelor of Science in Business (BSB-1987) and Master of Business Administration (MBA-1993) degrees from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.
He and his wife, Brenda, have a daughter, Regan and a son, Simon. The family currently resides in Phoenix.
