The Coyotes will begin a four-game week on Monday night with a game against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. The puck drops at 5:30 p.m. (Arizona time).

Phoenix, which has beaten Detroit at "The Joe" four of the past five times (including playoffs), will play minus captain Shane Doan, who is listed as week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

“It’s disappointing,” Doan said. “This is not how I planned the start of my year to go. I don’t like missing hockey games. I can’t wait to come back, contribute and help out.”

Defenseman Ed Jovanovski, who missed Saturday's game vs. Pittsburgh because of illness, traveled with the team to Detroit and will play.

Ilya Bryzgalov is expected to start in goal for the Coyotes, who last played on Saturday and lost 4-3 to Pittsburgh in a shootout.

The Coyotes (4-5-4) continue to struggle with consistency and have yet to win consecutive games this season. Scoring goals has been problematic; Phoenix ranks 21st in the NHL with 2.54 goals per game.

On the plus side, the Coyotes rank fourth in the NHL in faceoff winning percentage at 53.8 percent.

Detroit (8-3-1) returns to Joe Louis Arena where it will play its next six games. Home is exactly where the Wings want to be as they have reeled off a 4-1-0 record in the Motor City this season. The only loss came to the Coyotes, 4-2, on Oct. 28.

The Wings had won three straight games before Saturday's 6-4 loss at Vancouver, in which defenseman Niklas Kronwall scored two goals. Despite the defeat, Detroit managed a 2-1-0 record during its recent three-game trip through Western Canada.

While the Coyotes will be without Doan, the Red Wings have announced defenseman Brian Rafalski will play for the first time since Oct. 9.

"It's good for us, it's good for our power play," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said following the team's morning practice. "Obviously, he's a real good player."

Rafalski played just two games this season before undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery Oct. 12.
