CALGARY – Ilya Bryzgalov made 39 saves and Martin Hanzal had a goal and an assist on Wednesday night as the Coyotes beat the Calgary Flames, 3-1, at Scotiabank Saddledome for their fourth straight win.

The Flames outshot Phoenix 16-9 in the first period, but could not solve Bryzgalov, who made several big saves.

The 30-year-old Russian slid across the crease to thwart Rene Bourque after he was set up by Jarome Iginla. Later he stopped Tim Jackman as he cut to the net, then sprawled to thwart Brendan Morrison on the rebound.

With the game still scoreless in the second, Bryzgalov again showed off his acrobatic style robbing defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, who had raced in and one-timed a pass from behind the net by Matt Stajan.

Phoenix scored twice in the second period to take the lead. Wojtek Wolski scored an unassisted goal at 7:13 with a shot over the left shoulder of Miikka Kiprusoff from a near-impossible angle.

It was the second goal of the year for Wolski, who scored a career-high 23 last season.

Phoenix doubled its lead at 12:33, scoring eight seconds into its fourth power play.

Hanzal redirected Radim Vrbata's shot, and the puck slid past Kiprusoff off the leg of sprawled Flames forward Alex Tanguay.

Calgary got to within one on Bourque's goal at 16:08 of the third setting up a dramatic finish, but the Flames could not pull even despite the late pressure.

The misery continues for Calgary (7-10-0), which has lost seven of its last eight and has dropped four straight at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Five of the seven losses have been by one goal.

Lauri Korpikoski rounded out the scoring for Phoenix (8-5-5) with an empt-net goal at 19:52 of the third period.

Curtis Glencross drew the ire of the Coyotes early with a heavy body check on defenseman Keith Yandle.

Shortly after Yandle slowly staggered off the ice, Yandle's defense partner Derek Morris went after Glencross engaging him in a spirited fight.

Later in the period, Yandle himself got in a shoving match with Glencross, an altercation that carried over to the penalty box as the two players yelled back and forth at each other.

With the Coyotes clinging to a 2-1 lead late in the game, the Flames made a heavy push to score the tying goal.

Calgary's best chance to knot the score came with 2:18 left when forward Alex Tanguay took a shot from in close on the left side. With Coyotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov slightly out of postion, Tanguay tapped the puck off the left post instead of into the net.

• The Coyotes again played without captain Shane Doan, who suffered a lower-body injury on Nov. 5. Doan is on the three-game trip with the team, and may play on Sunday at Vancouver.

• Defenseman Adrian Aucoin chipped in two assists and blocked four shots.

• Defenseman Nolan Yonkman made his debut with the Coyotes. Playing in his first NHL game since the 2005-06 season, Yonkman logged 4:50 of ice time and was plus-1. 

• The Coyotes scratched Shane Doan (lower-body injury), Sami Lepisto and Petr Prucha.

• The Coyotes' next game is on Friday vs. the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place. The puck drops at 7 p.m. (Arizona time). The game can be seen on Fox Sports Arizona and can be heard on XTRA Sports 910 (AM).
