GLENDALE -- Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov made 39 saves to lead the Coyotes to a 3-0 win over the Calgary Flames on Thursday night at Jobing.com Arena.

Bryzgalov was most effective in the second period when he stopped 19 shots on goal by the Flames, who have failed to beat the Coyotes in all three games the teams have played this season. They will play once more on Tuesday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

"He was excellent," Coyotes Head Coach Dave Tippett said about Bryzgalov. "We probably gave up more chances than we like, but he was solid in all aspects. Wherever the shot was coming, it seemed like he was in strong position, not a lot of rebounds."

With the victory, the Coyotes (35-23-11) climbed from eighth place into fifth place in the always-changing Western Conference standings. Phoenix, Chicago and Calgary all have 81 points, but the Blackhawks rank fourth because they've played one fewer game and the Coyotes are fifth because they have more non-shootout wins than the Flames.

Brett MacLean, Eric Belanger and Shane Doan scored goals for the Coyotes, who earned five of six possible points during a three-game homestand vs. Detroit, Vancouver and Calgary. Phoenix will play its next four games on the road.

MacLean, playing in just his fifth NHL game, gave Phoenix a 1-0 lead at 1:51 of the second period (see KEY MOMENT below).

Belanger, who had three points in Tuesday's game vs. Vancouver, wristed a shot from the right circle past Flames backup goalie Henrik Karlsson at 4:49 of the third period to put Phoenix up 2-0. Doan scored an unassisted empty-net goal at 18:04 to put the game away.

"It's a game we just have to move past and start getting ready for Vancouver (at home on Saturday)," Sutter said. "Karlsson played well. He looked big in the net and made some big saves. I thought we allowed (Bryzgalov) to see a lot of pucks tonight. I just didn't think we had one of our better games, so we'll be ready for the next one."

Playing with the confidence of an experienced trio, Phoenix's "Kid Line" teamed to set up the game-winning goal. Early in the second period, Kyle Turris passed the puck to Mikkel Boedker who then backhanded it back across the crease to Brett MacLean as MacLean drove to the net. The rookie punctuated the nifty exchange by knocking the puck off the right post and past Flames goalie Henrik Karlsson.

• Captain Shane Doan's empty-net goal was his 16th of the season. With that goal, Doan moved into a four-way tie for the team lead with Martin Hanzal, Taylor Pyatt and Radim Vrbata.

• Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov has notched 20 shutouts since joining the Coyotes. He is just one shy of tying Nikolai Khabibulin's franchise record.

• The Coyotes did not allow a power-play goal for the first time since Feb. 22, ending a seven-game streak.

• The Coyotes are 11-3-2 against the five teams from the Northwest Division: Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Minnesota and Vancouver.

• The Coyotes scratched Martin Hanzal (lower-body injury), Rostislav Klesla (upper-body injury), Chris Summers and Ray Whitney (lower-body injury).

• The Coyotes' next game is Sunday vs. Anaheim at Honda Center. The puck drops at 5 p.m. (Arizona time). The game can be seen on Fox Sports Arizona and can be heard on XTRA Sports 910 (AM).

You can’t worry about who’s in or out of the lineup, the guys who are in have to do their job and it was a big two points for us."
