GLENDALE — Dustin Penner scored with 49 seconds left in the third period to give the Los Angeles Kings a 3-2 victory over the Coyotes in a split-squad preseason game on Wednesday night at Jobing.com Arena.
Penner's shot eluded goalie
Jason LaBarbera's glove and trickled into the net.
Trailing 2-1, the Kings responded with two third-period goals for the win.

“I didn’t like the fact that the only time we really dug in was when our emotion went up so we decided to put a little emotion in it,” Coyotes Head Coach Dave Tippett said. "“...It’s early in camp still. We've got lots of work to do and lots of time to do it."

Tyler Toffoli redirected Patrick Mullen's shot on goal with Los Angeles on the power play at 14:14 of the final period.
That came less than four minutes after captain
Shane Doan put Phoenix ahead. Doan gave Phoenix a brief lead when he converted
Ray Whitney's pass from the right face-off circle at 10:29 of the final period.
The game started with the teams trading goals just over five minutes into the game. After a scoreless second period, Doan gave Phoenix the brief lead until the L.A. comeback.
The Kings' Ethan Moreau started the scoring when he poked a backhand in behind Coyotes goaltender
Mike Smith just 1:19 into the game.
Phoenix tied the score about four minutes later.
That's when defenseman
Keith Yandle redirected a perfect centering pass from
Lauri Korpikoski into the net at 5:22.
Late in the second period, the Kings nearly broke the 1-1 tie.
On a power play, Penner's wrist shot hit the right goal post behind LaBarbera, who replaced Smith midway through the period.
