Kings 4, Coyotes 0 | Dave Vest | Tuesday, 03.19.2013 / 2:50 AM

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles rookie Tyler Toffoli celebrated his first NHL goal on Monday night. The Coyotes would gladly take a goal of any kind.

Jonathan Quick stopped 27 shots as the Kings beat the Coyotes, 4-0, handing Phoenix its fourth consecutive shutout loss away from Arizona. The only other team since expansion to be shut out in four straight road games was the 1967-68 Oakland Seals.

“We just have to keep pounding away at it and hope we get some luck,” Coyotes Head Coach Dave Tippett said. “There's no time to get down now. We have to keep pushing forward. We've got to find some people to get the job done.”

Toffoli converted a pass from Jeff Carter for a second-period power-play goal that made it 2-0 -- then received a standing ovation from the packed house of 18,118 at Staples Center.

“It was incredible,” he said of the fans' reaction to his goal. “I didn't expect that. I just had goose bumps, and it was a great feeling.”

The Kings improved to 11-2-1 at home and moved into fourth place in the Western Conference with 34 points. Phoenix fell to 13-12-4 and hasn’t scored a goal away from Glendale since winning 4-2 in Vancouver on Feb. 26, and they haven't scored anywhere in 185 minutes and 10 seconds since Rob Klinkhammer's third-period goal in a 5-2 home win against Los Angeles on March 12.

Jake Muzzin, Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter also scored for the Kings, who host the Coyotes again on Tuesday night.

Quick earned his first shutout of the season after recording 10 in 2011-12.

“It's a win, two points. No matter how you do it, it's still two points,” Quick said in downplaying the importance of the shutout. “It's good to get the win. It's going to mean nothing tomorrow, so we've got to get ready for tomorrow.”

LA’s first two goals were scored on power plays.

“We got ourselves in trouble with a couple of penalties,” Tippett said. “They capitalized on them and it changed the outlook of the game. I’m more upset at giving them an early lead on power plays than our chances not going in. We just got to get some luck.”

The Kings put the game away by scoring two goals in a 71-second span of the third period to chase Coyotes goalie Mike Smith to the bench with 12:27 to play.

“We have to stay out of the box,” Coyotes forward Raffi Torres said. “We took three offensive penalties. You can’t give a team like that much time. They have a lot of fire power up there and they showed it tonight. They played well all around. Overall we need to be better and worry about what we are doing. We have to keep getting pucks to the net. Hopefully we can capitalize on the power play. We just have to keep our heads up here and have a pretty desperate game tomorrow.”

1. Here’s how captain Shane Doan summed up the scoring drought: “You have to create your own luck; create your opportunities. Obviously it would be nice to get a lucky one, but you have to create that and we’ve had bounces go against us and bounces go for us. We have to find one right now. … “Obviously we’ve got to be better … and somehow find a way to generate some more offense. We thought we had some opportunities in the second and the third, we just didn’t bury them.”

2. Goalie Jason LaBarbera stopped all seven shots he faced in relief of Mike Smith and has stopped 44 of 45 shots in his last four appearances

3. Center Boyd Gordon won 12 of 16 face-offs.

4. Forward Raffi Torres delivered a team-high six hits in 15:00 of ice time.

5. With the loss, Phoenix’s record dropped to 5-1-0 in games played on Monday this season.
