Forward Ray Whitney, whom the Coyotes signed as a free agent on July 1, is expected to play in his first exhibition game for Phoenix tonight. Whitney has impressed Tippett with his skills and savvy.
"He’s playing in another league right now,” Tippett said when asked to critique Whitney's play at training camp. “He’s just better than a lot of people right now… He’s had umpteen training camps and he just comes in and you can see he’s a good player. There’s a lot of good players here and he’s a real good player.”
Defenseman Shane Hnidy, who is at training camp on a tryout basis, also is expected to play in his first preseason game.
Ilya Bryzgalov, who stopped 24 of 25 shots in his preseason debut vs. LA on Thursday, will start in net at the Glendale game.
