Coyotes Put Point Streak on Line vs. Flames
Calgary Flames vs. Phoenix Coyotes

FLAMES (4-2-2) at COYOTES (5-2-2)

Season series: This is the first of five meetings between the Calgary Flames and Phoenix Coyotes. They will not face each other again until Dec. 4 at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Big story: The Coyotes will enter the game with a six-game point streak (4-0-2) and have captured 10 of their last 12 possible points. This matches the team’s longest point streak from the 2012-13 season. Meanwhile, this is the second game in as many nights for the Flames, who are in the midst of a five-game road trip. They dropped the first two games before responding with a gritty 3-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night.

Team Scope:

Coyotes: One night after suffering a 3-2 shootout loss at Anaheim, the Coyotes went home and responded with an impressive 5-2 victory against the Detroit Red Wings at Jobing.com Arena on Saturday.

Mike Smith made 31 saves in that game and became the 11th goaltender in NHL history to score a goal when he fired the puck into an empty net as time expired. He's 3-0-2 with a 2.53 goals-against average during the team's hot stretch.

"Obviously I'm thrilled with the way we played. It's just a bonus to be able to score a goal in this league as a goaltender," Smith said. "We did a lot of really good things against a good hockey team.''

Head Coach Dave Tippett also was impressed by the way his team played and he likes the depth of his roster.

“On any given night, we can have a line that looks like the go-to line,” Tippett said. “That’s one of the things that I think will make us a good team is that depth and stability right throughout our lineup. That’s kind of a hallmark of who we are. We want to make sure everyone’s involved and contributing and when they’re contributing in a real positive way, it makes us a better team.”

Captain Shane Doan, who sustained a lower-body injury Saturday's win against Detroit, skated only briefly at an optional morning skate Tuesday and is questionable for the game. In anticipation of Doan's probable absence, the Coyotes recalled Brandon Yip from the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League to add an extra winger to the roster. Center Tim Kennedy was sent back to the AHL.

"We'll see about Doan (Tuesday)," Tippett said. "He's questionable for sure. We made a move in case we have to change things up."

Center Martin Hanzal played in his 400th career NHL game and scored a goal vs. Detroit on Saturday. He leads the team with eight points (two goals, six assists) and has recorded a point in seven of nine games this season.

Flames: Calgary can attribute Monday’s victory to its power play. All three goals came on the power play, including TJ Brodie’s game-winner at 19:30 of the third period.

Calgary's power play is currently clicking at 23.5 per cent overall - good for sixth in the League. On the road, they have converted on 20.8 per cent of their power play chances.

Mike Cammalleri made his season debut and had a goal and an assist and goalie Karri Ramo made 27 saves for the win.

“Big win for the boys,” Cammalleri said. “I thought we were quick on pucks and had some poise with it, but I think, maybe more importantly, there was a little bit of hunger, a little bit of a desire – kind of that intangible stuff that when you have it, the puck seems to will its way in sometimes.”

Joey MacDonald will start in goal for the Flames. MacDonald has a 3-1-1 record this year with a 2.99 GAA and a .891 save percentage. MacDonald's last game was in Anaheim on Oct. 16. He made 19 saves on 22 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Ducks.

Who's hot: Coyotes center Mike Ribeiro has a six-game point streak (three goals, four assists). “I’m getting more comfortable, that’s for sure,” Ribeiro said after Saturday’s win over Detroit, in which he scored two third-period goals... Flames rookie Sean Monahan scored again Monday. He now has six goals in eight games. Mark Giordano has three assists in the past two games and Jiri Hudler is 2-5-7 in the past five and has an eight-game point streak overall.

Injury report: Flames forwards Matt Stajan (leg) and David Jones (upper body) are on injured reserve.
