ANAHEIM - Rookies Kyle Turris and Mikkel Boedker scored their first NHL goals, and the Coyotes beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-2 Sunday at the Honda Center.

Captain Shane Doan scored twice for Phoenix, which has won its first two games of the season for the first time since 2003-04.

Steven Reinprecht had two assists for the Coyotes, and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 33 of 35 shots to earn his second victory in two days. Phoenix beat Columbus 3-1 at home on Saturday in the season opener.

“Every day is a learning experience for us,” Head Coach Wayne Gretzky said. “To get wins like this is a big step. Listen, we have a long way to go and we know that, but we’re very proud of where we are right now.”

Boedker gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead at 11:40 of the first period. Reinprecht carried the puck up the left side and fed Boedker as the rookie from Denmark charged the net. Once he held the puck, Boedker hesitated slightly and made a slick move to his left that pulled Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere out of place and exposed about half of the net. Boedker didn't waste the chance.

Up 1-0 early in the second period, Reinprecht flicked the puck through the neutral zone to Doan and Doan, beyond the Ducks defenders, raced down the center of the ice toward Giguere on a breakaway. Doan made several dekes then back-handed the puck past Giguere for a 2-0 lead.

Turris made the score 3-0 when he back-handed a loose puck near the right post  through Giguere with 11:04 left in the second period.

Ryan Carter and George Parros scored goals for Anaheim (0-2-0).

The back-to-back victories on consecutive nights did not surprise Coyotes newcomer Olli Jokinen, who chipped in an assist.

“We had a very positive trainging camp even though our record wasn’t very good,” Jokinen said. “This past week was very good for us. We practiced for five straight days (before the opener) and found some good line combinations. We’re a good skating team and we’ve been using our speed. I don’t know what it was like before I got here, but we believe we have the chance to win every game.”

Leading 3-1, the Coyotes killed a key penalty about midway through the third period after defenseman Keith Yandle was whistled for slashing. Bryzgalov made several nice saves, but his best was a pad save on a shot by Ducks forward Teemu Selanne, who also nearly scored but hit a post with a first-period slap shot.

Doan’s second goal went through a scrum in the crease and put Phoenix ahead 4-1.

"Talk to me again after 20 games, but at the same time, we have the capabilties of being really special," Doan said of the team's successful start.

Ducks forward Rob Niedermayer suffered a leg injury in the second period and did not return.

The Coyotes next play Wednesday at Chicago.
