Jeff Hoggan also scored a goal and goalie Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 12 of 14 shots for the Coyotes, who never trailed.
"I thought we played a good game," Associate Coach Ulf Samuelsson said. "We controlled the puck well. Our draws were very good, so we got a lot of puck possession... I thought we battled pretty hard for the first game (of the preseason)."
Led by Fiddler, Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan, the Coyotes won 25 of 47 faceoffs.
The Coyotes also were effective penalty killers, holding the Kings to just one power-play goal on seven tries.
"We pressured them quite a bit more than we have, and they did have some skill players out there so it wasn't necessarily that easy," Samuelsson said. "They got one lucky goal on a tipped puck. Overall we did a good job."

Although they didn't notch a point, the Coyotes line of Hanzal, Radim Vrbata and Petr Prucha played extremely well.
"They showed some chemistry early," Samuelsson said.
Leading 3-1, Spina, who grew up in nearby Mesa, took a slick, backhanded pass from Scottie Upshall from behind the net and beat Kings goalie Jeff Zatkoff at 16:41 of the third period.
"Dave really utilized his speed and got rewarded for it," Samuelsson said. "... He had a phenomenal game and got a little extra ice time penalty killing. He really made a good case for himself today."

Wayne Simmonds scored both goals for Los Angeles.
Phoenix's Francis Lessard fought LA's Andrew Campbell midway through the first period. After the bout, Campbell was given an extra two-minute penalty for instigating and an extra two-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The Coyotes took advantage of the lengthy power play as Vandermeer beat Kings goalie Erik Ersberg with a blast from the left point at 14:20.
The Kings did not register a shot on goal until the 16:21 mark of the first period. But with Coyotes defenseman Kurt Sauer in the penalty box for tripping, LA tied the score at 1 when Simmonds tipped a shot through traffic by Viatcheslav Voynov with 29 seconds left in the period.
Lessard, who is one of several players auditioning for the job of Coyotes enforcer, fought LA heavyweight Raitis Ivanans at 7:41 of the second period and held his own. He did, however, suffer a nasty cut over his left eye and had to leave the ice temporarily.
Phoenix regained the lead at 13:05 of the second period after Spina fed Fiddler a pass just inside LA's blue line. Fiddler took the puck, skated in and wristed a shot over Ersberg's glove from the middle of the left circle.
"It felt good to get out there and try on a new jersey and a new set of gear and play with some of my new teammates," said Fiddler, who signed with Phoenix as an unrestricted free agent this summer. "...They turned the puck over and Spina made a really good play to get it to the outside and I was just on the wing and took my option to shoot it and fortunately it went in."

Phoenix rookie Brett MacLean, playing on the top line with Doan and Matthew Lombardi, had a terrific scoring chance 1:32 into the third period, but his one-timer from the top of the crease off a pass from Lombardi was blocked by Zatkoff.
Kings defenseman Drew Bagnall was called for three penalties within the first 11 minutes of the third period but the Coyotes failed to score on the power plays.
Zatkoff made another nice save on a shot from the low slot by Doan at 11:48 that left Doan shaking his head in disbelief.
Zatkoff, who replaced Ersberg at the start of the third period, could not stop a wrist shot by Hoggan at 14:50 that gave Phoenix a 3-1 lead. Moments before his goal, Hoggan delivered the game's best check on Campbell in the right corner.
Spina turned the game into a rout with his goal at 16:41, but Simmonds scored a cosmetic goal from long range at 16:56 before Spina's goal was announced.
