Associated Press
PITTSBURGH –
Evgeni Malkin tied a career-high with five points, Sidney Crosby extended his scoring streak to 21 games with a goal and two assists and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Coyotes, 6-1, on Monday night at the Consol Energy Center.

Kris Letang had a goal and an assist and Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves for Pittsburgh, which won for the first time in three games since having a 12-game winning streak snapped.

Malkin, who had three goals in two games since returning from missing four contests due to a knee injury, had two goals and three assists Monday - all within the first 27:21 of the game.

Crosby's point streak is the longest in the NHL this season and one short of the longest since the 2004-05 lockout.

Malkin's five points matched the most by any player in the NHL this season, done six times previously. Malkin also had five-point games March 17, 2009, against Atlanta and January 20, 2007, versus Toronto.

Playing without starting goalie Ilya Bryzgalov (upper-body injury) for the third straight game, Phoenix fell to 1-2-1 during an East Coast tour of Atlantic Division teams.

Wojtek Wolski scored a goal for the second consecutive game for Phoenix (15-10-7).

Fleury improved to 8-0-1 in his past nine home games. He was tested extensively in the first period, when he made 16 saves and was denied a shutout only by a shot that deflected first off a thigh and then off Fleury's helmet.

Eight minutes into the third, Derek Morris' shot from point struck Wolski in the right leg while he stood in the crease to Fleury's left. The puck deflected up, nipping Fleury's helmet, and back into the net.

Pittsburgh (22-10-2) led 5-0 after two periods.

Just 51 seconds into the second, Malkin again was fed by Crosby while wide open in the slot when Phoenix defenseman Keith Yandle tripped behind his own net seconds into a Pittsburgh power play. Crosby picked up the loose puck and found Malkin for his 21st assist during his scoring streak.

Two minutes later, Crosby scored his 21st goal of the 21-game streak - again while on the power play. This time, Malkin set up Crosby, who walked in through the right circle and beat Jason LaBarbera with a wrist shot.

When Matt Cooke scored moments after Malkin's faceoff win later in the period, LaBarbera was chased and replaced by Matt Climie.

With Pittsburgh up 1-0 in the final minute of the first period, Sidney Crosby extended his scoring run with one of his most unique assists of the streak.

Crosby, among the league leaders in faceoff percentage, took advantage of the fact that Vernon Fiddler was kicked out of the left faceoff circle in the Phoenix zone for dropping his stick too early. Crosby then duped Lauri Korpikoski, slid the puck forward, lunged and immediately fed a wide-open Evgeni Malkin, who had only eight goals in 26 games before his recent tear.

• The six goals allowed by the Coyotes tied a season-high for goals allowed in one game set two other times: at Dallas on Nov. 5 and vs. Anaheim on Nov. 27.

• Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov missed his third game in a row because of an upper-body injury.

• Winger Taylor Pyatt fought Pittsburgh enforcer Deryk Engelland at 1:39 of the third period. Engelland landed a hard punch to Pyatt's face that stunned Pyatt and ended the bout. Pyatt skated off the ice but did not return to the game.

• Goalie Matt Climie made his Coyotes debut in relief of starter Jason LaBarbera, who allowed five goals on 22 shots. Climie played 22:25 and stopped 15 of 16 shots. His only blemish was a goal scored by Pittsburgh's Chris Conner with 1:39 left in the game.

• The Coyotes scratched Paul Bissonnette, Ilya Bryzgalov (upper-body injury), Sami Lepisto, and David Schlemko.

• The Coyotes flew back to Phoenix immediately after the game. They are tentatively scheduled to practice at the Ice Den in Scottsdale on Tuesday from 11:20 a.m. until noon. The Coyotes' next game is on Thursday vs. the San Jose Sharks at the HP Pavilion. The puck drops at 8:30 p.m. (Arizona time). The game can be seen on Fox Sports Arizona and can be heard on XTRA Sports 910.

"This is unacceptable for our group. We'll address some of the issues that we have. That's not who we are right there, and that's not who we're going to be, and we'll do whatever we can to fix it." "We weren't working the whole game... We weren't finishing our checks, we weren't winning battles. Our PK was terrible and our power play was terrible... It was an all-around embarrassing, rock-bottom moment for the year." "Sid's a great player. We've played together (for) five years. He's an amazing player. We just work hard together."
